Get the fizzy in the fridge. Celebrations are in order, with 2016 marking the 40th birthday of iconic record store, distribution company and label Rough Trade.

Opened in 1976 by Geoff Travis, Rough Trade has evolved and grown, becoming an intrinsic part of independent music culture in the UK. Collaboration and co-operation has always been at the heart of what Rough Trade do, and their series of 40th anniversary events typifies their approach, bringing together an eclectic mix of both established and emerging artists.

Running from 22nd October – 5th November across various venues in London, their anniversary series will include a selection of collaborative performances at the Barbican from The Pop Group and Protomartyr, Scritti Politti and Alexis Taylor, and an evening at Islington Assembly Hall with The Raincoats and Angel Olsen.

At Hackney’s Moth Club, Ed Nash’s new outfit, Toothless, headline, with support from dub funk and pop band Peluché.
